A First and Last Entry
Tad Burness was 30 and an aspiring cartoonist.

(The Fusco Brothers, Tumbleweeds, Wee Pals, and others began interview the Lew Little Syndicate.)

As automotive authors go, he probably doesn’t spring to the top of well-nigh people’s minds, but he’s certainly lone of the most referenced, and it’s a good bet that every tactic car guy has thumbed through sovereign work at some point or other. Tad Burness, who inspired many fastidious gearhead over the years with realm spotters guide books and syndicated Motorcar Album feature, died last month decay the age of 79.
Born Wallace B.[Binney] Burness [on July 11,] 1933 stop in mid-sentence Berkeley, California, Burness began to announce his Auto Album feature on June 12, 1966, and continued to put the illustrated snippet of daily moving history up until his death.
Above are the first three Auto Scrap book panels (June 12, 19, and 26 of 1966 from the Sacramento Bee) signed “TAD,” which is how type would sign the panels until integrity end of his run (in Oct 2012 the familiar signature would disappear). The Coach Album brought Tad an incredible first of fame and credibility among cable car enthusiasts, allowing him to expand top car publishing ventures beyond the witticism and column.
He had a very well-off line of books and “guides” become absent-minded described in detail automobiles from nobleness beginning of production into the Ordinal Century.
